This seasons big hair colour is red, but do you really want to live in the hairdressers?

So it seems the colour of the moment is red, thanks to some daring celebrities such as Cheryl Cole, Rihanna, and Florence.  What a gorgeous colour but keeping on top of it will be a little more than just hard work! any hairdresser will be able to explain why: basically the molecular structure of red pigmented hair dye is far larger than most other colours, so when the colour is first done some of the coats the outside of the hair, as you wash your hair more and more the colour from the outside of the hair is removed. in other colours the pigment becomes trapped within the hair but still manufacturers cant quite get red spot on.

How to keep Red hair Red!!
Number one make no mistake it will dull down but here's a few tips to keep Red hair Red
ALWAYS use a shampoo and conditioner for coloured hair, normal shampoos and conditioners strip any colour from the hair.
Invest in some semi permanent hair dyes from your hairdresser, these will re pick up the pigment in-between salon visits. i like the Wella Colour Fresh range- i find these are the truest to their description and last the longest with the best shine.
Use heat protectors even whilst blow drying and don't use too much heat or over straighten your fiery locks.
Don't extend your salon visits, your red hair will require alot of professional attention.

Hopefully Red is here to stay its a bright and cheerful colour, but do seriously consider if you can keep up with its maintenance if you aren't already a Fiery red head.
